More than 7,000 work in tourism industry in Wealden
More than 7,000 people work in the tourism industry in Wealden, according to a Wealden Do Tourism conference earlier this year.
The industry is worth £250m to the local economy with 75% of visitors coming on day trips, most from within 90 minutes driving distance.
A consultant said there was huge potential to grow the overnight market ensuring people stay longer and come from further afield.
The majority of visitors to the district are aged 45 years and over, and the conference learned that wine tourism is attracting younger, high-spending visitors from London.
